Director of Business Development – CRO Drug Discovery (East Coast)

Overview:

A well-established Contract Research Organization (CRO) specializing in early-stage drug discovery is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead sales efforts across the East Coast. This role focuses on expanding client partnerships and promoting cutting-edge chemistry and synthesis services tailored to pharmaceutical R&D pipelines.


The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in drug discovery—particularly in synthetic chemistry—and a proven ability to drive business within the CRO or pharmaceutical sector.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop and implement a territory-wide business development strategy aimed at increasing sales and client engagement.
  • Identify, approach, and build relationships with key decision-makers at pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
  • Present service offerings in drug discovery and custom synthesis with clarity, aligning solutions to client needs.
  • Manage the sales cycle from lead generation to contract negotiation and deal closure.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with scientific, project management, and marketing teams to tailor proposals and ensure delivery.
  • Monitor industry developments, competitor movements, and client demands to refine strategy.
  • Represent the company at relevant industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities across the Northeast.


Requirements:


  • Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • Solid experience in business development, sales, or client-facing roles within a CRO or pharmaceutical environment.
  • In-depth understanding of drug discovery processes, especially around small molecule development and synthetic chemistry.
  • Track record of success in selling scientific or technical services.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a consultative selling style.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing a remote, travel-heavy role.
