Business Development Director – CDMO

Compensation: $120,000 base + uncapped 7.5% commission

Travel: Moderate, including conferences and client site visits


A well-established CDMO with strong capabilities in small molecule drug development is seeking a skilled Business Development Director to expand their US client base. This is a strategic commercial role focused on engaging biotech organizations, particularly those in the early stages of research and development.


The ideal candidate brings both scientific understanding and commercial experience, with the ability to identify opportunities, build relationships, and guide discussions from initial outreach through to deal closure.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a national sales strategy targeting biotech companies engaged in drug discovery and early-stage API development
  • Initiate contact with key decision-makers including scientific leaders, procurement professionals, and executive teams
  • Conduct tailored presentations and discussions that highlight technical capabilities in chemistry and integrated development
  • Serve as the primary contact for proposal generation, pricing discussions, and project handovers
  • Track market trends, client needs, and competitor activity to refine outreach approaches
  • Maintain CRM records, manage pipeline data, and provide regular updates to leadership
  • Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in business development within a drug discovery, CDMO, or chemistry services setting
  • Strong background in scientific sales with the ability to lead technical conversations and build long-term client trust
  • Familiarity with the biotech sector, especially preclinical and early clinical organizations
  • Self-driven, organized, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment
