About the Role

A fast-scaling chemical supplier focused on high-purity raw materials and custom intermediates is looking for a Business Development Director to lead commercial expansion across the West Coast U.S. This organization supports pharma and biotech clients with tailored synthesis solutions and end-to-end raw material sourcing, helping them meet complex project and production needs.


The ideal candidate will bring strategic insight into the RSM and intermediate market, a solid technical understanding of chemical manufacturing, and a proven track record in building revenue-generating partnerships across pharma and specialty chemical sectors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a sales and business development plan to drive growth in the West Coast region, focusing on RSMs, intermediates, and custom chemical solutions.
  • Identify target clients across the pharma, biotech, and chemical supply chain and convert them into long-term commercial partners.
  • Engage with decision-makers at all levels—from procurement to R&D and executive leadership—to understand pain points and position tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal chemistry and production teams to deliver custom proposals aligned with client technical requirements.
  • Oversee deal structuring and contract negotiations to align client expectations with company capabilities and commercial goals.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market developments to shape sales tactics and inform strategic planning.
  • Represent the company at key industry trade shows, conferences, and client meetings to promote services and stay connected to emerging opportunities.
  • Share feedback with senior leadership to enhance offerings and identify opportunities for expansion or differentiation.


Candidate Profile


Qualifications:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical discipline (MBA or advanced science degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in business development within the pharmaceutical, fine chemicals, or custom synthesis sectors.
  • Deep understanding of raw materials, RSMs, chemical intermediates, and pharma manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with West Coast markets and an existing client network in the region is highly advantageous.


Skills:

  • Strong commercial instincts with a consultative approach to selling complex technical products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to independently manage sales pipelines, client communications, and project coordination.
  • Strong organizational skills and a self-driven, goal-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel frequently throughout the West Coast region to build and maintain client relationships.
